The 2022–23 season is the 137th season in the history of Arsenal FC and the 104th consecutive season in the top flight. In addition to the domestic league, Arsenal FC competes in the FA Cup, the EFL Cup, and the UEFA Europa League, which is their 37th European campaign.
For the assurance of having a better chance of winning the EPL trophy this season, Arsenal FC announced two signings of notable players from fellow Premier League side Manchester City in July 2022, where Mikel Arteta spent three years and a half as an assistant coach to Pep Guardiola before returning to Arsenal as head coach.
Who is the Arsenal FC new signing?
Arsenal FC announced their first summer transfer window signing on 10 June, with Brazilian forward Marquinhos joining the club on a long-term contract from Série A side São Paulo. On 21 June, the club announced the signing of Portuguese midfielder Fábio Vieira from Primeira Liga side Porto wearing the number 21 shirt.
Six days later, Arsenal FC confirmed American goalkeeper and Arsenal fan Matt Turner joining the club from Major League Soccer side New England Revolution wearing the number 30 shirt.
On 4 July, Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus joined Arsenal on a long-term contract and was assigned the number 9 shirt. With the ability to play in several attacking positions, Jesus is one of the leading strikers in the Premier League during his six seasons at Manchester City.
On 22 July, Ukrainian left-sided player and Arsenal FC supporter Oleksandr Zinchenko, who is comfortable operating in midfield and defense, joined the club on a long-term contract wearing the number 35 shirt.
Why Arsenal FC May Not Win the EPL Trophy this Season
Ruud Van Nistelrooy believes Arsenal FC are Premier League title contenders this season, but the challenge they face is that Mikel Arteta’s side is young.
Van Nistelrooy spoke after his team’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal FC in the Europa League. The victory was Arsenal’s 13th in 14 games so far this season. The Gunners sit four points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Van Nistelrooy speaking
“I was able to share my appreciation for Mikel. The way he is building his team, the way he is letting his team play, the signings he has made to make his team play the way he wants to play and he is connecting it with results,”
“And if you are ten games gone in the Premier League, winning nine of them, you are definitely a contender. Obviously, it is the youngest team in the Premier League, more or less, so that’s the challenge. But they have the squad for it and the quality for it and the manager for it.”
According to Cesc Fabregas
Fabregas believes his former club could pull the plug but says a title challenge will depend on how they handle their European commitments.
“‘The only question mark for me is the Europa League. It’s tricky because you play every Thursday, the games can be very far away, and you end up getting back at 4 am, and then you need to play again in the league on Sunday.
“That’s not easy at all, so it will be interesting to see how Mikel Arteta handles that situation. But I’m confident that they are in a good place to do it.”
Patrice Evra also identifies what will cost Arsenal FC the EPL title
Patrice Evra has claimed that Arsenal’s lack of squad depth will affect their Premier League title chances this season. He believes Arsenal FC doesn’t have a substitute bench, adding that they will have to buy more players in the January transfer window if they want to challenge for the Premier League title.
Evra, who credited Mikel Arteta’s side, also warned the Gunners that the Premier League is not a sprint but a marathon. Evra said,
“I say to people I give so much credit to the Arsenal team. The league is not a sprint; it’s a marathon.
“My worry is that they don’t have the bench. I hope, in January, that they are going to buy more players… if you want to challenge for the league.”
So far, Arsenal FC Arsenal was guaranteed to be topping the Premier League for yet another week; a slip against Southampton was a blow to their hopes of remaining there long-term, now sitting within reach of their closest pursuers Manchester City, who won their match against Brighton.
