Often the doctor will also check for signs of cancer cells on biopsy. A biopsy is a procedure that uses a needle or some other instrument to remove a small amount of tissue from a part of the body where cancer is suspected. The sample can be sent to a lab for analysis.

In men, prostate cancer is a common condition found in the male reproductive system. Prostate cancer can be found in the prostate gland, located at the front of the bladder. If the gland is malignant, it can cause painful symptoms, such as fever, difficulty urinating, and an abnormal urge to urinate.

Also, prostate cancer can occur in the testicles, which are located near the back of the abdomen. If the testicles are removed, there can be pain, swelling, and difficulty urinating.

Colorectal cancer

Colorectal cancer is another type of cancer in men, this is a very common cancer among men in the USA. These types of cancer have affected the colon or rectum, but, it is preventable through early screening. Colorectal cancer is very treatable when caught early, but it remains the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United State with over 27,000 men dying from these types of cancer each year.

Quitting smoking, limiting consumption of red meat and alcohol, avoiding eating hot dogs, deli meats, bacon or sausage, regular exercise and controlling the weight are all ways to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.

Lung cancer

Lung cancer is another type of cancer that begins in the lungs and cause mainly by smoking. The lungs are 2 spongy organs in the human chest that take in oxygen when people inhale and release carbon dioxide when they exhale.

People who smoke are prone to develop lung cancer. These types of cancer can also occur in people who have never smoked. The risk of lung cancer increases with the length of time and number of cigarettes smoked by smokers. If a smoker quit smoking, even after smoking for many years, the person can significantly reduce the chances of developing lung cancer.


These types of cancer are serious skin cancer that develops in the cells that make melanin, the pigment that adds colour to the skin. Most men are twice as likely to get melanoma cancer by age 65 than women and 3 times more likely by age 80.

It is important for men to let their doctor know if they notice any changes in the size, shape, or colour of a mole or freckle, if they have any sores on their skin that don’t heal or if they develop a new mole or lump under their skin.

Screening can start with a complete skin self-exam every month, an especially important habit to maintain if they have a family history of melanoma. When melanoma is found and treated early, the cure rate is almost 100%.

Bladder Cancer

Most men are 4 times more likely than women to be diagnosed with bladder cancer. While a screening test for the bladder is not yet available, research has established a connection between a sedentary lifestyle and the risk for this and other types of cancer.

According to the National Institutes of Health, over 45,000 men and 17,000 women per year are diagnosed with bladder cancer. The most common type of bladder cancer is Transitional cell carcinoma which begins in the transitional cells in the inner layer of the bladder. Transitional cells are cells that change shape without becoming damaged when the tissue is stretched.
