Achenyo Idachaba is an American born entrepreneur and winner of Cartier Initiative Award for women in Sub-Saharan Africa in 2014 working in Nigeria. She came to limelight after she moved to Ibadan, Nigeria, in 2009 to set up a money-making business environmental consultancy on good business ideas. She had an affinity with Nigeria as her parents had been born there and she had spent some time visiting when she was younger although she was born (in about 1969) and educated in America.
According to Achenyo Idachaba, she realised that Water Hyacinth which was recognised as an invasive weed could be harvested and turn to a money-making business as she had read of this happening in Asia. She has developed good business ideas such as a wastebasket and a table tidy which were made from plants that are usually only known for being invasive.
Water Hyacinth was originally from South America and can be seen as attractive in a domestic garden, however, they have been called the “worst aquatic plant” as they grow so abundantly that they create large floating mats of plants that quickly reproduce. The weeds are harvested, dried and then made into a rope which can then be made into products.
Idachaba set up Good Business Ideas Company called Mitimeth
MitiMeth provides sustainable and creative value chain solutions delivering environmental and economic benefits to communities and consumers. MitiMeth creates handcrafted products from natural fibres that would otherwise be considered waste or environmental menaces. These natural fibres include aquatic weeds (water hyacinth, typha grass) and agricultural waste forms (banana bark, maize husks).
MitiMeth also upcycle and add value to recovered waste (plants and non-timber resources) by harvesting and transforming it into furniture and home accents, storage pieces, lamps, kitchen and dining ware, stationery, and branded souvenir items. Everything is made locally but designed with global appeal.
She also runs business ideas training programs that teach local community members how to find alternative income-generating opportunities by using the resources around them. These good business ideas workshops are financed through partnerships with private and public sector institutions who want to see a positive return in the lives of the trainees.

Many business leaders are faced with numerous decisions every day. The options and strategies are countless and without deliberate planning, they are left always guessing at what to do. The way a company approaches its strategies for success is called it’s business orientation. There are 4 types of good business ideas orientation and strategic planning that help define a business. The 4 are
- Marketing and
- Sales orientation.
The operations of a business are the focus as the strategy becomes attaining price leadership in the niche, meaning offering the cheapest products. If a company can reduce costs to sell the lowest priced manufactured product on the market, it can win against competitors selling the same or similar products. The strategy looks to save money in the production and cost of goods sold
Ability to negotiate contract agreements for goods and services. Experience negotiating contracts for the Fuels and Lubricants business. Negotiation skills are also qualities that allow 2 or more parties to reach a compromise. These are often soft skills and include abilities such as communication, persuasion, planning, strategizing and cooperating. Understanding these skills is the first step to becoming a stronger negotiator.
Most negotiation outcomes will fall into one of two categories: Win-Win or Win-Lose. By understanding the different types of negotiations you may encounter, you can determine the most relevant skills for your role and work to improve them. Continue reading
Ability to work productively and keep up effective relationships in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams as well as to cultivate a culture of information and knowledge sharing. Several years of experience in various work teams as a regional and global leadership.
It is also the collaborative effort of a group to achieve a common goal or to complete a task in the most effective and efficient way. This concept is seen within the greater framework of a team, which is a group of interdependent individuals who work together towards a common goal. Basic requirements for effective teamwork are an adequate team size. Teamwork is present in any context where a group of people are working together to achieve a common goal.
These contexts include an industrial organization (formal work teams), athletics (sports teams), a school (classmates working on a project), and the healthcare system (operating room teams). In each of these settings, the level of teamwork and interdependence can vary from low to intermediate depending on the amount of communication, interaction, and collaboration present between team members
Achenyo Idachaba efforts were recognized in 2014 when she was given the Cartier award for women’s initiative award for sub-Saharan Africa.
